Prosperity Gospel has a world-wide following today. Its preachers preach Christ but not Christ crucified. The worse thing is that those who advocate it not only fail to realize they’re wrong but shamelessly invite others to follow their path – many do. This poem warns us to be careful not to be led astray. Remember – if the Cross is removed, there is no Gospel left for us to preach or hear.
Beware of enemies of the Cross !
They know not they’ll inherit eternal loss
if they don’t repent of their trespass !
They grab all that the world doth toss !
They juxtapose not wheat and chaff –
Neither know they the Shepherd’s staff !
At the truth they repent not but laugh !
Walk not their way of deceit and craft !
They seek the world for a living –
Money is their god and their craving !
The world, they keep on asking:
They know not their spirits are perishing !
O how it grieves me to see one deceived !
He thinks he’s right in whatever he’s perceived
He does whatever his mind has conceived –
It were better if the Gospel he had not received !
Carry the Cross and turn not back !
Trust God through every despair and lack –
Trials may toss on every side and whack:
Yet know you’re on the right track !
Turn not from the real Christ you know –
Trust Him through every tear and sorrow;
Joy is in His presence; not where money grows !
Let not hypocrites pull you into their burrow !
Scripture References:
- Philippians 3:18-19 For many live, about whom I have often told you, and now, with tears, I tell you that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, they exult in their shame, and they think about earthly things.
- Matthew 6:24 You cannot serve God and money.
- 2 Peter 2:17-21 These men are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm, for whom the utter depths of darkness have been reserved. For by speaking high-sounding but empty words they are able to entice, with fleshly desires and with debauchery, people who have just escaped from those who reside in error. Although these false teachers promise such people freedom, they themselves are enslaved to immorality. For whatever a person succumbs to, to that he is enslaved. For if after they have escaped the filthy things of the world through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they again get entangled in them and succumb to them, their last state has become worse for them than their first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.
- 1 Corinthians 1:23 but we preach about a crucified Christ, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.
