Poem

When friends stray

You will surely face times in life when those who once walked with you on the way of the Cross turn their backs on the real Christ. They might not turn to the world, the devil or other religions. Instead they might run after prosperity preachers or teachers who proclaim a different ‘Jesus’. I wrote this poem after seeing such painful things happen. I hope this poem will help you understand reality and fix your eyes on Christ without being emotionally disturbed.

When temptations try to crush
Your Grace sustains my heart –
I don’t know Lord what to say
when those who know Thee, brush
aside Thy love and calmly depart !
O turn them before the price they pay !

Friends that walked with me once
are not in the way of the Cross now !
Savior, have mercy on us, I pray !
O let the straying souls, through Thy lens
of Truth, see Thee and raise their brows !
“Ah ! Let me turn”, I wish they’d say !

But Thy Word saith surely some shall stray:
Denying the Way, they’d wander –
Adding lies to the Gospel of Life !
O help me discern and stay in the Way !
Help me love those who blunder:
that some be saved from the deceiver’s knife !

O please help me persevere and be humble
For ’tis by Thy righteousness I stand !
Let me never say, “By my efforts, I attained it!”
I know anytime I may easily stumble
if Thy Grace keep me not in Thy Hand !
Preserve me, I beg, till in Heaven I safely sit !

Scripture Reference:

  • 2 Peter 2:1 But false prophets arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. These false teachers will infiltrate your midst with destructive heresies, even to the point of denying the Master who bought them. As a result, they will bring swift destruction on themselves.
