Without a higher perspective, life is meaningless. Without faith in Christ and His coming Kingdom, our life and toil on earth is a futile exercise. But when we see life through the lens of Christ’s teachings, everything changes. If you believe that His Words are true, your priorities change, your choices change and everything about your life changes – why you live and how you ought to live. I wrote this poem to remind us of the truths we should value if we follow Christ.
When I get to the other side
It will not matter how much I knew
But only how I treated the one who lives beside
When I cross the river of death
It will not matter how wonderfully I preached
But only whether on Heaven’s side I safely reached
When it’s all been said and done
It will not matter how much I’m worth
But only how much heavenly treasure I’ve won!
When my life on earth is o’er
Everything I hold dear in this world will rot:
Therefore into Your Kingdom, let me, my life pour!
Teach me to fix my eyes on Heaven
Let not worldly cares and deceitful riches
Creep in and pollute my heart, as doth leaven
Help me to be content and thankful
Till on the Promised land I set my foot!
Preserve your child, for, I’m weak and vulnerable!
When life is tough and sore on this side,
Grant me a glimpse of the other; may the glory
to come fill my heart and present sufferings, hide!
- Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and devouring insect destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and devouring insect do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
